What makes a good story for a children's film?

With this question in mind, the Estonian Children's Literature Centre selected 12 films from a preselection given by the PÖFF Shorts team, to be screened in the PÖFF Shorts Kid's Animation Competition.

"This year there were several stories about cows, socks and the loss of loved ones — although not together in one film. We think that we found the best stories and put together three very special and exciting collections," said programmer Ulla Saar from the Estonian Children's Literature Centre.

12 films were selected for the programme, among them animations from Canada, Portugal and South Korea. Representing Estonian filmmakers, the competition includes the award-winning puppet film The Mystery of Missing Socks (A Film Eesti, 2023) by Oskar Lehemaa.

Different collections are intended for different age groups and dialogue is dubbed in Estonian.

The programme was put together by Ulla Saar, Tiina Undrits and Liis Sein from the Estonian Children's Literature Center together with Vassilis Kroustall, the Animation Programme Director of PÖFF Shorts.

The international short film and animation festival PÖFF Shorts takes place from November 7 to 15 in Tallinn and Tartu, Estonia.
The festival is presented by Elisa and Metropol Spa Hotel.
