Each and every one of us carries a burden of sorts. It may be placed upon us – knowingly or unknowingly – by the non-written societal rules, by our loved ones or we may have chosen the path ourselves. All this makes us interpreters in our own way – flowing through relationships, meanings, words and challenges. This programme focuses on four characters looking for the little worlds in their pockets that they can escape to, to find either themselves, comfort or much needed closure.

My sister died several years before I was born. I only know her from old family photos and visits to her grave. Nevertheless, she was a present part of my life. I fantasized about her and was convinced I was her reincarnation. I thought a lot about whether I would meet the same fate as her - a death at a young age from a brain tumor. My film tells what my sister meant to me, my brothers and my parents, and what her death triggered in us.

Ryuki was born into a rich family, but two years ago he lost everything. Like a lot of people with nowhere to go, he ends up in Tokyo’s infamous red-light quarter. He starts working in a cutthroat Host Club where women, mostly prostitutes, come to look for a new boyfriend. He quickly becomes the Number One Host, but he hopes that the secret that already made him lose everything doesn’t ruin this.

In Flow of Words follows the narratives of three interpreters of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. They interpreted shocking testimonies from witnesses, victims and perpetrators, without ever allowing their own emotions, feelings and personal histories to be present. Contrary to their position at the tribunal, this film places their voices and experiences center stage.
