Queer Bonds
Contrary to the imagined confines of the heteronormative, the term “queer” in cinema brings a promise of rebellion, struggle and transgression, a spectacle even – at least to the non-queer eye. For this selection I’ve chosen to go down a slightly different road, shifting the focus from form to sensibilities. These films invite us to take a closer look at the delicate and strange ways of connecting, how we’re bonded through trauma, courage, expectations and self-discovery.
All human stories are different but also the same in a way – the queer ones, in my opinion, just tend to naturally illuminate the complex structures we have to overcome in order to truly be together. With ourselves and others.
