The 2021 children's animation competition was programmed for PÖFF Shorts by the Estonian Children's Literature Centre.
„In the case of a good picture book, we deem equally important the text and the images, as well as the idea of the story and the overall composition. I believe those components are equally important in film, to create a good animated film that speaks to children and adults alike. We made a great selection!“ said Triin Soone, head of the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre.
For the children's animation competition, 12 films were selected from 8 countries, from France to South-Korea to Finland. Chen Yang’s „Red“ (Germany) has its international premiere, a story about a girl living in a red world who accidentally discovers the existence of other colors. It is the first time all those films are screened in the Baltic countries.
Red (dir. Chen Yang, Germany 2021) holds its international premiere at PÖFF Shorts.
"The films offer a fresh view on family, nature and our prejudices,“ describes animation programming director Vassilis Kroustallis. The programme was compiled by Triin Soone, Ulla Saar and Kadri Naanu from the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre.
