A total of 275 short films from 57 countries will be screened between November 11 and 19.
The shortest festival during the Black Nights, PÖFF Shorts features competition programmes and a side programme with numerous screenings, including genre films, works inspired by dance and poetry, and a special screening for visitors with dogs. Approximately 285 filmmakers are expected to attend the festival.
"Each Shorts screening will feature at least four or five films that form a complete whole. Since most films will only be screened once, it's definitely worth going with a friend so you can share your impressions afterwards," recommended PÖFF Shorts director Mari Liis Keevallik.
The festival will begin with three competition programs, which will be evaluated by an independent international jury. The live-action short, animated short, and the Estonian short film to win the Jury Prizes for Best Film will be eligible for an Academy Award nomination.
The jury consists of nine film and culture experts: comedian Ann Vaida (Estonia), director of the Valga Hot Shorts short film festival Gert Põrk (Estonia), animation directors Martinus Klemet (Estonia) and Izabela Plucinska (Poland), film producer Naomi Smith (UK), artistic director of the Catalan international animation film festival Animac Carolina López Caballero (Spain), German-Ukrainian film curator Jana Riemann, and filmmakers Holger Lang (Austria) and Adrian Barber (UK).
The six winners within the three competition programmes will be announced at the PÖFF Shorts' Awards Ceremony on Saturday, November 15. The nominee for the European Film Academy's Best Short Film Award will also be selected from among the competing films and announced at the 29th Black Nights Film Festival's closing ceremony on November 21.
